<p dir="auto">You'd have to read the book to get those answers.<br />
But here you go: In the book, Vince ends up surviving but is severely hypothermic and frostbitten, such that the hospital staff jokingly refers to him as "Ice Balls" and Dr. George the anesthesiologist is apparently NOT in on it (as opposed to the later TV remake).<br />
