There are 4 main storyline arcs to follow. Here is how to watch them (in my opinion).
Storyline 1:
Halloween (1978)
Halloween II (1981)
Halloween: H20 (1998)
Storyline 2:
Halloween 4 (1988)
Halloween 5 (1989)
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
Storyline 3:
Halloween: Season of the Witch (1983)
Storyline 4:
Halloween (2007)
Halloween 2 (2009)
Halloween: Resurrection does not fit into any storyline because it is an abomination.
You could potentially fit Halloween 4 into storyline 1 but it may complicate Laurie's storyline with her son John. Halloween 4 is a worthy candidate for it due to it's superiority over most of the series.
What do you guys think? Do you have your own branch of storylines? Or do you just watch them in standard order? Or random?

I watch the original at II every year. 4 and 5 intermittently. Got Resurrection, and watched it a couple months ago. III every now and then, as well.
Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.
