I was born in the early 90s and Scream was possibly the first horror film I remember seeing. I'm sure I had seen something before, maybe even Halloween, but I remember actually being in the theater and seeing Scream when I was probably too young to be seeing it.
Halloween I saw a lot on VHS in the mid to late nineties. I was terrified by it as much as Scream oddly enough. I never found it boring, but I understand why some find it to be a slow moving film. Michael Myers did terrify me though.

I saw this movie after I saw Freddy a couple of times and after I saw Jason do his thing as well. Those movies were just bigger and Halloween was nothing but a distant memory at that point. I knew of Michael Myers just had't seen the movie. So I finally sat down and watched it and loved it more than I could have ever imagined. Halloween was and is so much better than all of those movies. It is horror perfection!
I'm Oddly Even, who the hell are you?

I watched it when it ran on the late show a couple years after it's network premiere. I thought it had a great beginning, a really suspenseful final reel, but sort of flabby, not-so-gripping middle and (based on the raving I'd heard for this movie over the previous couple of years) I have to say I came away feeling kind of disappointed. However, after checking out the unedited version I found that it's flaws became less pronounced while it's merits became more and more apparent. This film has great cinematography, atmospheric music (that main title theme should've been nominated for an Oscar), Loomis is the greatest horror movie hero since Cushing's Van Helsing, and it has one of the creepiest (and influential) endings in the history of horror. Some times you just have to see something more than once to fully appreciate it.

Actually, my first reaction was hearing about it while taking a long walk on a railroad track with my sister and her friend at dusk.
They mentioned the part where Laurie hid in the closet and what Michael's sinister face looked like. Scared the Devil out of me as a boy.
After seeing it the first time on BETA tape in the 80's, I was more taken in by the atmosphere than by the scare-effect and ever since, Halloween has become my favorite horror movie.
To me, atmosphere is the most important element in horror and Halloween delivers all you can eat in that area. In today's "horror" movies, you're lucky to experience anything that even comes close to it.
