Veruy true Doom.
In fact, nearly every time Isabel Sanford was interviewed after, she lamented on about the fact CBS gave them no notice and no real ending. Especially in the case that she'd played Louise jefferson for 14 years by 1985.
ALL In The Family :
Mar. 2nd, 1971 - "Lionel Moves Into the Neighborhood"
to
THE JEFFERSONS :
July 2nd, 1985 "Red Robins" (Little Jessica Jefferson's scout troop.)
14 years and four months. Maybe even 15 years, counting when that AITF ep. was recorded.
The closest we have to an actual Jefferson's ending is on Fresh Prince of Bel Air's final show in 1996, when George & Louise are seen as buying the Mansion from Mr. & Mrs. Banks. (After will fibs to George about ladies skinny-dippng next door sometimes.)
So, don't feel to bad in that case.
GUNSMOKE had 635 shows and
no ending either. (That is until the 5 or so reunion films in the 1990s.)
Go for it or just be a gopher!

And, just think, The Jeffersons was on for 11 seasons and aired 253 (!) episodes and they were never given the chance to have a proper series finale.
The cast and crew heard the show had been cancelled by reading it in the newspaper.

Aside from The Jeffersons from All In The Family, I think
Benson is 'the' most successful spin off of a 1970s Tv series , ever.
Why? Because there's not one bad season of the show and it never lost any of it's best qualities. A bit too much turnover in minor cast members but other than that, I find nothing wrong to say about it at all.
NOTE :
"Frasier" is the most successful spin off overall.
Most Emmy wins and slightly longer run than The Jeffersons.
The Jeffersons was a mid-season debut,
where Frasier had 11 complete seasons & more episodes.
