Actually the "soap" to which Christine refers is baby shampoo. They added baby shampoo so the slime would wash out of peoples' hair more easily, and so it wouldn't irritate their eyes. They just had to be careful not to get it in their mouths afterward.
There's a story about the first slime, way back in 1979 the props man who was assigned to come up with the slime used a variety of nasty things in order to make it, like sausages and stuff. Stories differ as to whether that first slime was ever used, but I think it probably was, because there's another story (also unconfirmed) that Tim Douglas, the first kid who was ever slimed, had a terrible taste in his mouth for some time afterward. In any case, it was several episodes before green slime was used again, and by then they'd started using the flour and green Jell-O mixture, and that particular episode (St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1979) also introduced "I don't know" as the trigger phrase for the slime. A few years later oatmeal or Cream or Wheat was added.

Around 82 or 83, both Lisa Ruddy and Kevin Kubacheskie appeared on Livewire, which was this sort of tacky talk show which also aired on Nickelodeon at the time. It was kinda like "Phil Donahue" for teens, or something like that. Anyway, one of the questions that was asked was what was in the green slime, and I think they said it there was no regular recipe, but it was mainly green jello, plus whatever they had around the studio on the day. I think they said on one occasion it actually had sawdust in it.

If you ever watched the Television episode right before the infamous multi-colored slime scene, Christine pretty much gives away the slime ingredients to Vanessa. She tells her what it's made out of. I think this episode was in the 1982 season.

No, especially not when you had a $50 bonus involved for each time you were slimed.

I can recall a few episodes when Moose would say, "mmmm" when she got slimed. It never looked appealing to me but reading the ingredients, per your link, got me thinking that it wouldn't have been too bad to be slimed.
