I’m going to defend their decisions to split up. The first time when they sent the engineer to find the cat they all assumed they were hunting a small penis-sized creature. The second time it was clear that only one person could go into the vents to flush the creature out. Although the third time was a little less forgivable, Ripley could have gone with the other two to collect the oxygen/fuel tanks for the skiff. Although maybe she purposefully used the other two as a distraction to sacrifice them and escape on the shuttle alone, lol

Those idiots should never have split up. But then characters in horror movies always make incredibly poor decisions to advance the plot. It's what they do.

They probably dropped acid and wanted to come up with unique alien movement. When they sobered up, they cut it out of the final edit.

Have you ever seen the Deleted Scene in "
ALIEN
" when after Ripley activates the Self-Destruct System aboard the ship, she is running through the ship and then climbs down a ladder into this dark area which turns out to be the Alien's lair and inside of it, she finds both Brett and Captain Dallas cocooned ?

I actually first saw "
ALIEN
" when I was 4 years old and it actually didn't scare me (not even the chest-bursting scene).

Watching this movie was a life changing experience for me.

There is no doubt this is one of the best Science Fiction films ever. This scene helps to explain why.

The director has a vision of how he wants the movie to look and tell the story. Each scene and sequence are part of the plot. What we see in the final cut is mostly how Ridley Scott wanted it to look. It's an artform.
The Alien is a lifeform from another planet. It's not supposed to appear as a man in a suit. Also, working on a budget, there are limitations. A man wearing a xenomorph suit cannot show more of the Alien's hunting style and its abilities like jumping, swimming through water, running on walls.

I believe there was a design of the xenomorph first without factoring in Bolaji before filming. Bolaji was the best they could use at that time to satisfy the height of the creature. In later films, some of the xenomorphs appear even taller than Bolaji.

Yeah, we were still used to men in rubber suits back then but they were trying for something less schlocky. Bolaji Badejo was very tall and thin and they used that to make the alien look less human but in the end it was still a tall thin man in a costume.

I don't remember the specifics anymore. I think that the technology wasn't available to show the Alien creature in its entirety like these days. Even the most recent Alien movies keep the tradition of the original movie by not showing much of the Alien at all. It's all part of the creatures hunting strategy now. It blends into the dark, hides, sneaks up and attacks mostly.
Even the ending battle between Ripley and it, you can still tell that the Alien is a man wearing that costume.

I also think they were trying to show less of the alien because you don’t really see it in detail until the end.

The first time I saw Alien, that was one of the scenes that scared the crap out of me. I prefer Aliens more though because the terror and suspense is hyped full throttle.

The alien crab walking towards Lambert takes too long. Moreover, Lambert seems like more of a pathetic simp in the extended version of this scene. Just run the hell away from it!

Well it looks like the video you shared is a splice of before and after the final edit. I wouldn't know the specifics because I'm not a film editor or film director. Spiderwort would could definitely provide a more clear explanation than I could. But he's not here and I don't think he likes horror movies. Tag him in this thread, see if he responds.
