Maybe a SPOILER:
What a great transition right around the 2:05:00 mark of this film. Iwao goes up the stairs to kill his final victim (the mother, Hisano) and at the same time his own mother comes in from the background. After a cut following her and a subsequent POV, we are now in a new location. Definitely rewound to check this one out again. Reminded me of something in Claire Denis' Chocolat.
Brilliant film.

i agree, That moment took me by surprise. I'm not much for identifying symbolism, but i wonder of that shots deeper meaning. Almost symbolizing killing his own mother, or the final blow to her health. I don't know but I know it's meaningful.
