Why the hell didn't the guy in the red car just start swerving and take out the bikers chasing him? That's what I would have done.

They were panicked and he probably didn't want to damage the car.

Why the hell didn't the guy in the red car just start swerving and take out the bikers chasing him? That's what I would have done.
It's a common theme that average people in cars are terrified of aggressive bikers.
I remember my mother watching some nighttime soap opera and there was a scene where the main actress and her friends were driving down the road when a gang of bikers surrounds them and starts kicking the doors. The women were screaming, when just swerving the car would have gotten rid of them. For the ones following them, just step on the brakes.

Probably crossing his sweaty shaking fingers that the bikers only meant to give them a scare. In his mind, starting to swerve and knocking a couple of them off might only escalate the situation way beyond what he hoped it was.
It's a reasonable thought as it turns out, because while they
were
raped and robbed, knocking some of them off their bikes would more than likely have ended in the driver's, and probably his girlfriend's death.
then whoa, differences

yeah, who knows, a 3 ton car like an impala would barely feel a bike under it's wheels. I guess he didn't expect them to attack?
the car itself was in poor condition, you can see the rusty water gushing out of the radiator. it was also only a six cylinder, which is a small motor for a big car like the chevy impala.
Its ridiculous to critique a movie with the argument 'it's not real, so it doesn't matter'
