I'm pretty surprised that this movie 'slipped by' for so long before I had a chance to see it
I was even more surprised when I finally SAW it
I really went in expecting something of a cross between videodrome and from beyond, y'know 80s horror movie. I love 80s horror movies.
really ended up being something much much more psychedelic/surrealist
but with a heavy science-fiction basis
as opposed to the move pure psychedelic/surrealist films like eraserhead or the holy mountain
this post is not a 'review' because I've honestly never seen anything similar in structure and purpose to use as a reference to compare this. but this was a very unique film as far as I've seen

Just watched it again. Loved it again. It's a very nice bit of psychedelic fantasy. Though, there is no way amanita muscaria mushrooms produced anything close to those hallucinations (like the field guide suggested in Mexico). Must be some fictional drug, like an amalgam of tryptamines.
