Saunders, the android of the Doctor's staff wears glasses. Saunders is an android. glasses?. need I say more? I must say, this is actually quite a funny movie, and entertaining. Nell is quite the comedian.

True, as its believed by science fiction writers, as well as robotic scientists, that the more human like the android, the more threatening they become. So it only makes sense to have them appear to have a physical "weakness."

Probably designed him that way to give him a little personality and differentiate from the other androids. And it gives him a comedic look too as they were definitely comedic characters.
