<p dir="auto">Joseph Merrick lived and died in the 1800s so perhaps they wanted to give it a dated look? Mire likely, there was no CGI in the 80s and the make up department was not as good as today, so maybe making it black and white hides how ****ty the elephant make up is?<br />
