I find it very odd and quite unnerving that they removed all the flesh from his body and kept his skeleton.
To think that they dissected his body and removed all the bones for some sort of freak show medical science display.
What manner did they dispose of the flesh and organs?
I just can't imagine a human being treated in this way, like he was some sort of trophy, mounted for display.
Imagine seeing a family member in this way knowing what was done to the body.
Sick.

Merrick may well have had an agreement with Treves regarding his remains, post autopsy. For the latter part of his life he received free accommodation and care from the hospital.

Yes, he did. He wanted Mr. Treeves to find out what had caused his condition so that it might be prevented or treated early in someone else. If it hadn't been his request I might think it ratherunsavorybut his reasons make it less so.
I have 49 people on my ignore list. Can you believe I had a PM asking me to put them on the list. I said no, they would have to be added from a board, no secret members. I never heard from them again. Oh well.
Rescue the damsel in distress, whip the bad guy, save the world.

Did John Merrick request it? It does seem cold but oftentimes people with rare afflictions offer their remains to science in hopes that it'll stop someone else from suffering. It was even more common 100+ years ago when sciences like histology were infants and cellular biology was unknown.
I only have one person on ignore, but I've had to ignore him 625 different times.

I think some of his organs were preserved but were destroyed in the Blitz.

The college where the bones are claim that they buried the flesh and organs in an undisclosed location, although there have been rumors Joseph Merrick's brain is also at the university.
