It's one of my all time favorite films
I have posted a number of posts on multiple threads here we talk about different aspects of the film and the navy in general here on this board. But yes I do work to eliminate stupidity where I find it.
Having served aboard a Carrier, the film brings back a lot of memories (though I loved the film long before I ever joined the Navy)
I joined the Navy to see the world, only to discover the world is 2/3 water!

OK, but the Japs could have popped into right when their bombers were dropping their first bombs not hundreds of miles out at sea. Jap fleet and airborne fighters time travel together.
But it would not have been much of a movie. A few ships and buildings are bombed. Nothing is where the Japs thought it would be. US would have massively retaliated with modern weapons.
