Since it is such an old movie was curious how many people saw it because of Ted. This, Krull and The Last Starfighter were the best cheesy bad movies of the 80's.

Nope. I grew up in the 1980's and must have seen this film at least a dozen times on cable TV back in the day.

'Ted' was released in 2012 and 'Ted 2' three years later. The films starred Mark Wahlberg and featured his adventures with a foul-mouthed and (usually) stoned Teddy Bear.
It was brought to us by the same people as 'Family Guy', and there are frequent references to 'Flash Gordon' plus a brief appearance from Sam Jones.

I saw "Flash Gordon" in the movie theater downtown when I was about 30 years old. I've loved it ever since. In fact, I'm watching it yet again right now. Undoubtedly, I've seen it more than 100 times, making it one of my "century mark" films.
I don't know "Ted", a movie I suppose? I know I haven't seen a film titled "Ted" unless there's more to it.

Nope! Even though I was born after this movie came out I am a sucker for old, cheesy, sci dis.

I think my distaste for Seth MacFarlane really dissuaded me from ever watching Flash Gordon.
Luckily, I found it very cheap and on Blu ray, and the cover sold it to me. Very cheesy, but colorful. Looked like it had good production design.
I watched it and loved it, and my hatred for Seth MacFarlane compounded itself and then kind of vanished because out of the humorous irony of it all.

No, saw this on its initial cinema release. Despite its cheesy campness, I love this movie.
Hail Flash Gordon, savior of the universe!
You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!

Nope. I was 11 when this came out. I loved it then and love it now. Ted had its moments, but I won't be watching that movie again like I will FG.

I thought exactly the same thing. Except that I was going to add that I had never seen Ted and that the only reason that I know of its existence is because I made a (terrible) short film with almost the same premise a few years before Seth MacFartLane.

I saw this in the theater back when it came out as I was 10 and I remember being one of three in the theater when it played.
The soundtrack alone elevates this to a 10.

I'm one of the couple of billion people that also watched movies and television in the 80's so I tend to get Seth MacFarlane 'jokes' without resorting to Wikipedia. What I don't get is why anyone calls his 'work' 'comedy', but I digress.
I'm genuinely convinced that every movie would be better with Arnold Schwarzenegger in it.

Yes! I was 8 years old when Flash Gordon came out and saw it numerous times in the theater. I bought the Queen soundtrack on 8-track. Actually became a Queen fan because of it (The Game had just come out too). I thought it was the coolest movie around next to Star Wars. So, for that, I'll always have a soft spot for it. I had no idea of the intended humor at the time. Completely over my head. There were some elements to it that I actually found frightening (the tree stump sequence, Klytus, and those creepy guards with the gas masks!).
Just watched Ted for the first time last night and got a huge kick out of seeing the way they paid homage to it. Seth McFarlane is just a bit younger than me, but he obviously connected to the movie in the same way I did.
AND.I don't care what any of the critics say, it's still a FUN movie! Everything has gotten so "dark" these days that it's refreshing to go back to a time that still had a sense of real, straight-forward, good guys vs. bad guys, fun.
