Some people just don't get it. They take it too seriously. They can't see how fun this movie is to watch over and over again.
The fun in this movie is in the supporting characters and their brilliant performances. How can you not love Price Vultan? One of the most quotable characters ever. He's hilarious and Brian Blessed plays him with so much life and volume. Max von Sydow is brilliant as Ming. "Prepare her for our pleasure!!!" Come on, you don't smile at that?
I don't care if your man or woman, straight or gay, if you're not attracted to Princess Aura a part of you is dead inside. A pre-Bond Timothy Dalton plays Barin so straight it's almost out of place but it still works.
Last but not least, Klytus. Peter Wyngard has the best voice for a villain outside of Darth Vader. He's so evil it's almost pure.
In summary, if you can't enjoy this movieyou suck. Well, OK, I admit that might be harsh. But you do need to lighten up a bit and laugh along with the rest of us.

The movie is a wonderful cheesy gem. It was never meant to be a serious movie. The cheese factor was meant to be a homage to the original serials. The originals were a masterpiece of low budget effects.

The Hawkmen attacking Rocket Ajax has to be one of the best combinations of action cinema and music ever produced.
One of my favorite musical moments is right when Zarkov's rocket has just cleared the atmosphere and it's silent. Right as it has it's final separation Brian May's guitar comes in with some really nice clear chords and then the keyboards and jungle drums takeover as they enter the Kingdom of Mongo.

The battle with the Hawkmen attacking the ship is one of my favorite scenes of all time. Sure the effects were cheesy then, and sure don't hold up to todays standards, but when Flash says "I'm going in" and Vultan orders "who wants to live foreverDIVE!" to that rockin Queen soundtrackI just smile, just exilerating.
