Okay. In my case it was the opposite, and I suppose that has a lot to do with the way I feel about Kubrick's adaptation versus the late '90s made for TV version that King produced.
In general, I've always thought that film adaptations of good novels fell short.
The Godfather and No Country For Old Men are a couple that were, imo, exceptions.

I like the film more even though I read the novel much later in life after seeing the film when I was a child.
