George Furth's character name in the movie. There was a very famous Nascar/Indy Car driver named A.J. Foyt who raced for a very long time. This movie was made around 1980-1981, and I believe A.J. used to drive the Hawaiian Tropic stock car in Nascar at one point, but not sure when.
When Mr. Foyt is giving his speech near the beginning, Mel Tillis and Terry Bradshaw are right outside the glass windows trying to fix their flooded car, which has the Hawaiian Tropic logo all over it.
Gee I wonder if this all was connected somehow.heh heh.
Just something interesting I guess
This is my signature, nice eh?

I may be mistaken, but the only Hawaiian Tropic car I can remember in NASCAR was driven by Donnie Allison. He and AJ were friends though.

There is a discrepancy between the FILM and the Credits:
In the scene where Foyt is hitting on 'Pamela Glover', the lectern has a a name plaque cleary reading [ARTHUR J. FOYT], but credits list the character as A. F. Foyt - killing the joke.
Vademecum

For those not old enough to remember Mel Tillis (or anyone else in this movie, for that matter) in their heydayhis is a genuine stuttering issue. Happily, he's made it work for him (and didn't get in the way of his singing!)
"Why must you needlessly complicate EVERYTHING?" Gordon Shumway

LOL, yeah, Mel was funny in those. Gotta love the stuttering. "Da.damn I, I got ta go to tha john!"
And Mr. Foyt talks to the big guy in the van and they get out and he puts it in drive and the van just takes off fast and crashes into a police car, heh heh.
"Uh oh, who did that?!?!?!? Make it stop!!!!!!"
KaBOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Hah.
He sorta gets "revenge" on Roger Moore at the end where he pushes the wrong cigarette lighter, heh heh.
This is my signature, nice eh?
