Some tidbits FWIW:
The song was released a short time before the movie,
Mommie Dearest
hit theaters and based on Crawford returning from the dead to seek revenge on her adopted daughter, Christina, for writing a tell-all book about being abused.
The music video for the song was controversial, as it showed Catholic schoolgirls turning into vampires, with one of the girls happening upon an intimate encounter between her mother and a man…and MTV refused to air it.
It later aired on USA Network's late night weekend music video show,
Night Flight
, which often specialized in cult music and films.
Joan Crawford was also abused as a child, psychically, psychologically and sexually.
The wire hangers had to do with Crawford's method of giving herself an abortion at a young age, and that she later had several miscarriages and couldn't have children of her own.
Some say it also had to do with bringing up bad memories of her childhood working in a dry-cleaners and living in horrible conditions while being raised extremely poor.
The childhood trauma resulted in alcoholism and possible bi-polar / personality disorder.
Some say the
no wire hangers
indecent never happened outside of the movie.
Crawford had worked as a prostitute, a stripper and did porn before becoming an actress…though some of her advocates depute those claims.
However, Christina found a home-made porn film of Joan Crawford after her death and planned on releasing portions of it in a play she wrote.
But it hasn't gone into production as of yet.
There are many other interesting stories about Crawford, but the
Feud
, mini-series covered some of them.
The film,
Mommie Dearest
, remains a camp classic, though Faye Dunaway regrets making the film and rarely mentions it.
Are you okay?
