I've read reviews that the dvd version is very poorly transferred. The dialogue is out of sync, etc.
I wonder if there will be a restored version on dvd. I haven't seen the movie, but was planning to. Now I don't want to see a poor version of it.
Thanks

I thought it was just the copy I saw. I guess from the discussion here that's not the case.

The Region 2 UK DVD looks and sounds remastered, compared to the USA version. I agree that the North American DVD seems like a laserdisc copy.

The North American release appears to have been mastered from a laserdisc, much the same way Lucas did for the original theatrical release of 'Star Wars'. I can only hope the film is eventually remastered properly from the negative.

The USA DVD is letterboxed, but the trailer is anamorphic. I've only seen like one other DVD like that - La Belle Captive. It even says on the box it's "enhanced for widescreen TVs." But it's not. The UK DVD is better. It's anamorphic and the video quality is great. I think the audio sounds better, too. If you have a region-free DVD player, that is the version to get, IMO.

This is one of the first DVD's ever to be released on the format. It is not anamorphically enhanced for widescreen televisions and is a mess from start to finish.
I think a new Special Edition DVD is in order!!!!!!!!!!
Can we petition Warner Brothers? They cleaned up Blade Runner just recently

The DVD presents the film widescreen, but looks really rough and scratchy throughout. I personally didn't mind the transfer quality in the least. I thought it actually enhanced the overall bleak and gritty atmosphere of the movie.

Sadly, it is pretty bad. The initial few minutes of the film starting from the Ladd Company logo and into the credits are scratched dirty and jittery. The transfer cleans up as the film progresses. I didn't notice and sync issues with the sound. The audio was re-ecoded to 5.1, but I don't think they did any sort o
remastering. I have the LaserDisc version of Outland and was pretty disappointed by the DVD version.
