when you say perfectly adequate boobs what do you mean?

I just heard Ben Manceweictz talk on TCM as he presented it there last night, about how around Hollywood they talked about it before it came out, so they created buzz around it on purpose, to make more money.

the pure, structured, cultivated Mary Poppins and Maria von Trappbared her chest for the movie, in hindsight it was probably done that way for the sake of hoping that it'd make the movie enough money to pay for itself.
Now, bearing that in mind, if they had used
Dolly Parton
instead, it would've made enough money to pay off the
national debt
!

I would agree that, in the context of the film itself, it's pretty anticlimactic. But at the time (and maybe even now), it was completely opposite Julie Andrews' typical movie role to show her breasts on film. This made her the perfect actress for the Sally Miles role. It definitely had a lot to do with getting me to see the film at the time (as a teenager). So it probably got people to see the movie, but was definitely not the best part of the film.

She sang that beautifully. I wish there had been a soundtrack but i never heard of one.

I saw this years and years ago, but the most memorable part for me is Julie Andrews singing "Oh Promise Me" - the cliche wedding song was never more beautifully sung. Her rendition remains in my memory for some reason.

She does have a name besides 'Mary Poppins' you know! I have seen part of it, and i would like to see the rest (not just to see if she really does have 'boobies') I was watching Sunset Boulevard which is a bit overdramatic sometimes, but does happen. 30 years of difference between the films means a lot of differences in Hollywood. It is pretty much the Standard Operating Bull**** though. Just more advanced with like anti-depressants and easier ways to kill yourself.

I agree with a lot of your opinions regarding this film. S.O.B. was definitely one of Robert Preston's finest hours. I also enjoyed the performances of Richard Mulligan, Loretta Swit, Robert Webber, and Robert Vaughan. Even this became known as the movie where Mary Poppins bares her breasts, it happens 2/3 of the way through the film and by the time it happens, it is rather anticlimactic. There is so much good stuff preceding and following it, it is a pretty insignificant moment compared to the flm as a whole.

I love this movie too and I think Robert Preston and Richard Mulligan are brilliantI also love the final scenes of Webber, Preston, and Holden figuring out how to bury Felix.

That is funny that you asked cause I killed myself a few months ago trying to find it, calling up every video store and library in a fifty mile radius, well twenty, but I was on Blockbuster's web site where I performed a search and they told me the nearest one which had the movie.

I remember seeing this movie as a little kid on Cinemax. I didn't get the jokes cause I was so young, but the fact that Julie Andrews boobs were on display didn't shock me. I didn't care really. It was something nice to look at lol.
