I notice that this film was released in 1981 same year as Raiders.
I wonder which film came first that is, which one popularized the whip as a weapon of choice?
Presumably it would be Raiders, and this movie picked up on the idea. But I wonder if it might not have been the other way around

The Zorro character first appeared in a serialized magazine story in 1919. The very first Zorro movie,
The Mark of Zorro
, starring Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, was released in 1920. So Zorro's whip predates Indiana Jones' whip by at least 60 years.
