Ted McGinley: co-starred on MWC longer than David Garrison, whom he replaced.
Kirstie Alley: co-starred on "Cheers" longer than Shelley Long, whom she replaced.
The only difference is that David Garrison left MWC mid-season and was not replaced until nine months later when Ted McGinley made his first appearance (also mid-season), but as a recurring character. Shelley Long, however, stayed until "Cheers" went on hiatus, and she was immediately replaced by Kirstie Alley who was immediately a cast member.
Funnily enough, Ed O'Neill was considered for the role of Sam Malone on "Cheers." No loss for Ed, since both shows lasted 11 seasons.
