So I watched this movie on youtube because I noticed a lot of hype about how scary the ending is. However I also noticed that a majority of the people who said this mentioned they were young when they saw it.
Honestly, it wasn't really that scary; at least not as scary as it was made out to be.

Well. this was made in 82 movies were a lot different then obviously. It obviously struck a chord for some reason if so many tell how scary it was to them These days watch it on youtube and "big deal" at the time though it was different.
I also saw it very young and was traumatized by it lol. ( when Mary first sees Jennifer under her bed as well as the ending scared me to death. If you notice. Jennifer looks the same as she does in the pic the grandmother talks to in the beginning. ( Was the pic taken the day she died she looks as shes dressed in the same clothes and the princess laya hair etc) When Mary first sees Jennifer she is posing the same propped up with her elbows- )As well as in the ending. when she rises from her mom's bed. the same pose. her face in her hands. hands propped up, wide smile ( ugh.. goosebumps thinking about it)
It's just a scary movie. Jennifer dies in an accident they try to start over Jennifer haunts the grandmother as thats where they left from before the accident. the father has a drinking problem and the kids seem lost. Kevin is a bit of a bully toward Mary. The family didn't deal with Jennifer's death when it happened.-alot of destruction happens when you run from troubles. It's a good movie.

SPOILER - They tied her shoelaces together in the car so she burnt to death in the accident ! Seems a good enough reason to come back a'haunting to me !

what i do not "get" is this: WHY was the ghost seeking "revenge" and trying to kill the family? WTF? her death was an ACCIDENT and they LOVED HER. Usually if a ghost is seeking revenge it was because the person was murdered or otherwise mistreated in life.
In fact I once saw a Kevin Costner movie where the ghost of his dead wife was trying to contact him but it was to tell him that before she died while on a mission in south america she gave birth to their daughter whom he assumed was dead too and the baby was being taken care of by the local natives. Her ghost while "haunting" him leads him to the baby. The movie was called DRAGONFLY.
But what reason or motivation does this girl have??? Was she unhappy or mistreated in life??
What is next? Maybe the ghost of one of the kids killed in Conneticut recently will go and kill its family? I mean seriously WTF??
