John Carpenter has some cracking movies on his CV; Halloween, Assault On Precinct 13, The Fog, Christine. The Thing is the jewel in his crown.

Yep, I really liked the 2011 Prequel as well.
I do hope that at some point in the future, they will release a version of the Prequel that actually still has all of the original practical effects in it (that version of the Prequel definitely does exist).
