Now I never found out if this is true or not (I myself do believe that it is indeed true) but I heard a few years ago that John Carpenter had actually originally wanted Donald Pleasence to play the role of 'Blair' in the Movie "
John Carpenter's THE THING
". He wasn't able to get him though because Pleasence was already filming another Movie at that time and so the role then went to Wilford Brimley.
If that is indeed true (and again, I myself do believe that it is) then I think that Donald Pleasence would have been pretty darn good in the role of 'Blair'. He really was an amazing actor.
That said, even though Donald Pleasence didn't play the role 'Blair'….I am glad that Wilford Brimley did. I think that he also did a pretty darn good job in the role.
