Instead of burning up all of that Things hiding spots. The Thing would just hibernate in the snow and reanimate later like it did before.
He already knew how to test to see who's the Thing. All he had to do was keep the rest secluded and safe from infection until the rescue team arrived.

No rescue team was coming until they had all froze to death. Blair destroyed the radios and then in the end he destroyed the power generator keeping them warm
