Has anyone noticed the similarities between this series and the opening scenes of Independence Day when the ships arrive from outer space and hover over the cities?Did Roland Emmerich rip off these scenes?

I had family members that were extras in Independence Day, I tried to go but work wouldn't let me off. We went and watched it on opening weekend because they were all in it and the first thing I said to myself when the ships were entering the atmosphere was "Hey that looks just like V." Lol

an arthur clarke is actually mentioned in the first episode of V, is this some kind of homage? i think he is mentioned as an authority on alien invasions or something.
calling us gay is one thing but calling us dykes is totally unacceptable

"V"'s makers were successfully sued by Clarke for royalties."
First I've heard of this. What is your source?

As it happens, "V" originally ripped off Arthur C. Clarke's book "Childhood's End" - at the start of which the alien (essentially benevolent) "Overlords" arrive over Earth's cities in huge spacecraft. "V"'s makers were successfully sued by Clarke for royalties. According to Clarke, the makers of "Independence Day" came to his agents up front and agreed a royalty in advance for using his idea.
Science Fiction films are, of course, traditionally inter-referential so the fans can have fun spotting the cross references.

Why not. Independence Day ripped off most everything else.
I didn't say Spoiler. The episode already aired! Why are you here if you haven't seen it?
