In my opinion, Kathleen Turner is the one who makes this film as funny as it is. She's one of those actresses like Carol Lombard who can combine humor with sex appeal. Turner never has a false moment in the whole film, while Steve Martin's part seems overwritten. The gag about his unpronounceable name gets old the first time it comes up, and there are some funny lines that are nearly spoiled by Martin's reactions.

Its sad that her character's weight gain at the end of the movie foreshadows an actual medical problem for her later in life.

I agree. You can't take your eyes off her when she's onscreen. There's nothing sexier than a beautiful woman who's also funny.
