At the beginning of the movie, we see Yentl with the women in the fish market, discussing what to look for in deciding which fish to buy. Meanwhile, a few yards away, we see the men discussing the
Talmud,
and one of them talks about there being seventeen different interpretations of
Genesis.
The point is that Yentl would rather be discussing the
Talmud
than buying fish.
But that was where the movie lost me. If I had lived in that village, I would have disguised myself as a girl so that I wouldnt have to talk about the
Talmud
all day. How much easier it would be to buy a fish, take it home, and cook it. Then your mind would be free to think about other things.

Please do tell what great inventions women have come up with in the last 50 years?

I believe the point if the movie was that men are so full of themselves they make what THEY do seem so desirable that you would wish to be one of them.
Truth is they are boring at best.
Women are innovators out if necessity and in fact possibly are the real inventors of practically everything.
