This movie was a fun movie from our youth. All my friends loved Michelle Johnson and enjoyed the movie. She obviously has a lot of fans from my generation and perhaps younger men who discovered this title later. She was incredibly sexy.
However, I can concur with the many people who think she was not a good actress. You can't pluck a girl out of high school and throw her into a movie and expect a good outcome. It almost seems like the Director said let's cast the hottest teenager we can find. Seriously, they could have auditioned hot teenagers who at least had some acting training. This movie had a lot of potential (Michael Caine, a beautiful exotic location that was not captured in many movies at that time, Michael Caine, a funny storyline, Michael Caine). I don't really think it was Michelle Johnson's performance that hurt this movie. It kind of comes off like a fun Made-for-TV movie with a large location budget, but nothing more.
I am surprised to see that some people have posted that the Hollywood system chewed up Michelle Johnson's career. Lamenting why did Demi Moore take-off and not Michelle. It's like saying why weren't Farrah Fawcett and Jacqueline Smith given big movie roles. Demi Moore was actually a pretty good actress. I was never a big Demi Moore fan, but it's funny that she was cast as the hotty not so long after BIOR. She looked pretty damn good in About Last Night an underrated film. You get to see a lot of Demi in all her glory as well. It appears Michelle Johnson went from Blame it on Rio to Love Boat shortly after.
Dig those big "Harry Caray" glasses on Michael Caine? Did people really wear those in the 80s?
