Most (or all?) of the children have Biblical names. It seems a little too on the nose. Isaac. Malachai. Job. Etc. Did they have these names before the takeover, or did they change them afterward?
I mean, really, how many times will you look under Jabba's manboobs?

I took it like some might've had bible names but they all got assigned a bible name once they decided to take over the town.

It presents itself in the movie too During Amos' 19th birthday ceremony in the church, before he gives himself to the corn and is writing his name into a book of past sacrifices. The camera focuses briefly on Amos's writing hand, showing not only the date, his current name and his former name on the last line, but the same for all other entries above his.

In the short story those biblical names are given to the children after they joined "he who walks behind the rows'
Malachis name at birth was Craig. Issacs name was William.
Job wasn't a central character in the story but the ledger says that 'Job' name was named Clayton before he was indocurned into the cult.

Job, and Joby, albeit not on the top ten popularity list, is a name used in the 80's and today. I've known two guys named Job and Joby. However, I've never met a Malachi. Biblical names like Sarah, Rachel, Matthew, Michael, and Isaac are very popular.

If I remember correctly. The little boy's name in the book was Joby. And Isaac had that name in the book.
After the kids killed all of the adults. All the kids in town took biblical names because He Who Walk Behind The Rows asked them to.

I always figured it was after. I do not buy someone naming their kid Job.

I'd say it just the town was very religious. Our church has a lot people with biblical names. So do the churches my family members belong to. There are a lot of Michaels, Jacobs, Sarahs and so on.
