The Indiana Jones film always start off great. A little mini adventure to get you pumped for the rest of the movie. Think about it, one of the most iconic moments from the serie, Indy running from the giant boulder, is from the opening of Raiders. Hell, the opening of Crystal Skull was the only part of the movie I actually liked. So with that in mind, of the four, which is the best. To me its got to be the opening of Temple Doom. It's just so different from the rest of the movies. The rest of them start off in some remote location like the desert, the jungle, Area 51, this starts off in a night club. Everything is just socool. Indy in the white Tux. The Chinese Gangsters, the tommy guns. It's all so stylized. And the scene itself plays out great. Tension building, the stuff getting passed back and forth on the lazy Susan. Willy Scott going threw the entire scene not realizing what's going on. And Lao Che, he was awesome. I think the only villian who beats Indy. They should def bring him back for the 5th one. His son was pretty cool too. I love the part where he shot up the club with the tommy gun. Laughing hysterically the whole time. And Indy himself was pretty bad ass. He threatened to stab Willy, killed the one guy with a flaming shish kabob, and he punched the cigarette girl in the face. This was back in the 80s when men could still be bad ass. And while s lot of people were thrown by the opening when they first saw it, I really like it. The first film starts off so subdued and quiet. There all walking around the Amazon. Indy is kept mostly in the shadows. Everything is very tense and mysterious. This film starts off with a garish over the top musical number. It has a chorus line and everything. It's just so unexpected how can you not love it. And Kate Capshaw looked pretty hot in that red dress. Yeah Temple of Doom def had the best opening. What about you ? Which one do you think was the best and why?

Raiders. It sets up the mood so perfectly by creating tension and giving us some clue as to what this character is all about. The Last Crusade would be my next favorite for how exciting it is, and seeing River Phoenix as young Indy is awesome.
As for Temple of Doom, I don't dislike the musical opening but it doesn't do much for me. The rest of the club sequence is pretty great though - it's clearly James Bond-esque.

Raiders, hands down. It's mysterious, creepy, tense, and springs into action once the ball gets rolling (heh). The scene where Indy disarms the guy with the gun is awesome as well.

Even though I really love Temple, I'll admit the opening wasn't anything spectacular. Raiders had the best opening, it's so iconic and it's the best movie.
What I find interesting is if I showed someone the opening to Temple and the sacrifice scene I doubt they would ever believe those two scenes came out of the same movie.

Although Raiders is my least favourite of the originals, the opening scene is the best. Going into the jungle temple, the traps, that is movie history. Then LC and TD.

Raiders without a doubt. I always hated the singing intro of Temple. Yes, the dancing is great, but that is not why I came to see an Indy-movie.

Temple of Doom. The dance choreography is absolutely fabulous. But the rest of the film is a downhill .

A good question, I would say Raiders because of the ball - that sequence IS Indiana Jones however I like Last Crusade is a close second and might be my favorite depending on the day of the week. Temple of Doom with the song and dance was silly and the sequence of the raft truly was "anything goes".
