how technologically advanced the thuggies were. How did they create a sacrifice board that could support weight of a human being and be made of a strong steel that does not melt in such a high heat intensity of the fire pit? I am assuming that it probably was not lava, just a big fire. How they had the technology to make a full fledged mine shaft complete with rails, carts, and tank. Additionally, how did they afford a machine that could crush large boulders?
It just amazes me. Really,it is just a movie; however, it amazes me that I have watched this movie multiple times and it has not yet dawned on me.
Indians and Muslim conquerers were somewhat technologically advanced, but a little bit more rural. Most buildings would be made of cow dung, mud, and wood. Of course, palaces were made of brick, wood, and mud. The ending sort of made it seem like they were still rural because they used bows and arrows (not even crossbows) to shoot Indy? The British had guns.

It's definitely not realistic in its depiction of circumstances. Willie would have cooked in her descent, there would be poisonous gases that would make the interior deadly and the heat would build up inside that enclosed space and make it an oven. But the script says "lava", so we need to leave the discrepancies to Saturday matinee license.

If it was lava, what kept it from eating away at all the other rocks? Even the mineshaft trains were all on wooden beams and the heat would have eventually eaten away at them. This is what makes me think it is NOT lava, but a man made (well of course it is a movie) fire of sorts.

If it actually was a volcano, it would have not been as hard as non-volcanic rock, which would allow for the cavernous mine shaft and the crushing of the mountain's rocks.
If I'm not mistaken, lava ranges from around 1300F to 2300F. The melting point of iron is about 2800F.
So if it's lava, it's all within expectations.
