I loved her, but hate how they basterize her character in the sequel by saying she was using Daniel to get a college guy and to get her ex off her back. I know it was the original ending but it would've made this film terrible in my opinion and she didn't seem that way at all.
I know, right? I thought the same thing when II started. If they wanted Daniel to go single for his trip to Okinawa, why not have them break up after her dad was (say) transferred and moved Ali's family to (wait for it).. New Jersey?
Having her dump Daniel at the prom for a college guy was so out of character for what we saw for the whole first film. Dumb writing that left a real bad taste.
