Mine too. I remember at the time, they cut a lot of footage - that it was more graphic. And if I recall, it's when she went into his room. This film haunted me at the time. I understand the director had difficulties keeping the stuff he wanted in the movie in the movie. It was very good as it was, but I wonder what could it have been if he wasn't restricted.

I do think it is underrated, I don't like it as much as some but I did like the portrayal of Los Angeles, many films portray Los Angeles as either a glamorous wonderland or a cesspool of vice and corruption. Mike's Murder presents L.A. filled with normal people leading workaday lives. The down to earth portrayal of the drug world, the drug dealers aren't portrayed as criminal masterminds or Tony Montana types. Even Pete's descent into coke fuelled paranoia feels realistic.

This is quite an underrated film. It starts off with innocent love and romance and surprisingly and uncompromisingly turns into a nightmarish cautionary tale against the drug underworld.

Yes, MIKE'S MURDER is one of my favorites. I have only known 3 people besides me who have seen it. 2 of them thought it "O.K," while another and myself thought it great.
The theme of unintentional but inevitable events is one of film's finest depictions of determinism. All of these people are connected but none of them, with the exception of Debra Winger's lady friend, "know" each other.
Everything in the movie revolves around Mike yet he has little screen time.
The use of much real-time filming brings the sense of minutes lasting hours and weeks lastingminutes.
Genuinely scary because it shows how chains of acquaintances can be affected by events that they did not initiate. One of the scariest films i have ever seen.
Give it a chance.

Chock full O mood. And great performances. Saw this when it came out,
the windows open, sipping some rum. You nailed it!!!

So much mood in this.
Choking on the mood.
Powerful.
I like it on the VHS.
Pulling out a tape, slipping it in the player, adds to the overall experience.
And with the way they have treated this movie, who knows about a proper transfer, if they will do it right.
You need to watch this movie at dusk, with the windows open and sipping some rum.
This and Gleaming The Cube are two of the underrated classics of the era.

Easily one of the top-10 films of 1984. Maturely directed, incisively scripted, and wonderfully acted, it's a minor classic worthy of rediscovery.
