because in star trek II reliant and Enterprise took hits  on the engineering hull and a warp drive narcell was shattered to pieces on reliant   and the ships still didn't explode , also Enterprise A took hits to the saucer and the hull<br />
you do not punish someone for having big boobs!</p>

<p dir="auto">Plus the Enterprise is a battle cruiser, the Grissom is a science vessel.<br />
This means the Enterprise also can take a lot more pounding than the Grissom can.</p>

<p dir="auto">It struck the engine section directly, where the impulse drive is.  Remember, Grissom is a very small ship, less than half the size of Enterprise.  Bird of Preys are lethal and pack powerful weaponry.  Also, Grissom did not have shields up, not even minimum.</p>
