this last shot in the film is really magic, so sad and haunting.
I agree. I also think the final shot indicates that it is her story. Don't get me wrong, it's called
Starman
for a reason, but one of the most profound and heroic points of the film is what it demonstrates about his ability to help her in her life. That said, the final shot as it is with the fantastic closing score, stay with you LONG LONG after.
When will you ever learn, this feeling is all you can discern?

"he scene in which she defines love in the diner, so heartbreaking, yet warm and loving at the same time. She truly does convey a woman who is in utter pain at describing love to the spitting image of her deceased husband, all the while she is teaching him something about humanity so it's both a positive and devastating moment portrayed eloquently by Karen Allen."
It's a great scene very well acted by Karen Allen, i agree.
The final shot sums up that "Starman" is mostly all about Jenny's characterthis last shot in the film is really magic, so sad and haunting.

I'm
SO
glad someone brought this up! I feel the same way. Karen Allen is an exceptional actress and while her turn in
Raiders of the Lost Ark
was trendsetting, and standard setting in some ways, it's beyond me why no one paid as much attention to her here, least of all the Academy, who certainly noticed the efforts of the ever wonderful Jeff Bridges.
Ms. Allen though, she was remarkable. The scene in which she defines love in the diner, so heartbreaking, yet warm and loving at the same time. She truly does convey a woman who is in utter pain at describing love to the spitting image of her deceased husband, all the while she is teaching him something about humanity so it's both a positive and devastating moment portrayed eloquently by Karen Allen. The rest of the film is drenched in her strong emotions, and so much of us seeing her feelings so powerfully. She should have receieved MUCH more attention for this picture. An oscar nod to say something.
