There are a few interesting similarities between this film and both the first and second Terminator films. I know The Terminator was released a few months earlier in the same year, but it did spend several years in pre-production, and Terminator 2 was released several years later. As such, I believe James Cameron may have been influenced by Starman, at least in regards to Terminator 2.

Both The Terminator and Starman arrive in this world naked at night.

The man from another world (Kyle Reece / Starman) falls in love with and impregnates the woman (Sarah Connor / Jenny).

Like Terminator 1 & 2, this is a road movie. The man is not from this world (Kyle Reece / The Terminator / Starman). The native of this world appears to be kidnapped, but becomes a willing participant in the journey (Sarah Connor / John Connor / Jenny).

Like Terminator 2, the man from another world (The Terminator / Starman) is taught the subtleties of human emotions by the native of this world (John Connor / Jenny).

When Starman and Jenny drive into the overturned fuel truck which explodes, Starman walks out of the flames, which is very similar to the shot in Terminator 2 when the T-1000 emerges from the fiery truck wreck in the storm water drain.

Like Terminator 2, there is a touching farewell in the end. Both Jenny and John do not want Starman and The Terminator to go, but it cannot be avoided.
