I saw it (in a theater) back in 1984 too. I was 27 then. I had just spent almost ten years trying to learn to be a tough, hard guy, actually something a little bit like the Jungian archetype I think Cody represented. It had not really gone very well.
I wonder: In what sense am I even the same person I was then? Somehow this question seems important.

I've seen the movie ten or twelve times and I've just watched it again.
I agree with g_ring: it's held up nicely. I enjoy it as much now as when I first saw it back in 1984.
