it was basically set like all of walter hill's movies. in an alternate present day (1984) for this film. and world war two never happened in the 40's because of the amount of muscle cars(no metal rationing/shortage) still around but it likely just ended or is still going on due to the fact mc coy says she was a soldier. they never had a 60's or 70's so the fashion and all that just stayed around because there was nothing to cause change.
