Which 1985 zombie film is more gruesome and better?
Both are equal and unique as they are kind of alike in some way and even got released in theaters nearly with an X rating but with a No one under 17 will be admitted rating and both are US video nasties in some way.

I'd have to go with, "Day Of The Dead". (See below, for the obvious reason!) But, you're right! Re-Animator rocks!

I saw "Return" in the theater. "Re-Animator" reminds me more of that than, "Day" does "Return" was so much fun! That little punker-gal was so outrageous!

Return of the Living Dead also came out in 1985.
Day of the Dead is much more serious than those other two. Its not unfunny, but its like a parody told through gallows humor.

They're too different. Day is a little more serious and Re-Animator is more black comedy.
You are sin.

Also, It's just hard to disconnect, "Day Of The Dead" from it's prequels & sequels It's part of a canon!

I think Day of the Dead is more gruesome. Reanimater is more of a comedy. A headless man holding his head going down on a woman is pretty silly and why the movie almost got an X
