I understand people have different tastes, I understand having only just watched it and it might be dated. Seriously though, a 7?!
The only thing scary about this is the thought of having to watch it again. Some of the characters were ok, but massive overacting from some such as"Dr Frankenstine" was comical.
"Bub", a zombie that learns. A zombie that feels anger over the doctors death and sets off for revenge.. with a gun!
Pretty poor movie in my eyes. Can't even see this being scary back when it was made.

I gave Day Of The Dead a solid 8. It is a great Zombie film, I don't know about you; but the older zombie films are the best. I am not into The Walking Dead or today's Zombie crap. I think it's cheap and just stupid. A thumbs up 4 Day of The Dead.

This movie has not aged well and yeahstupid awful poorly written characters BUT it was the 80's lol
Just watched itthe scientist was BRUTAL and grouse and of course the army guys are borderline psycho paths and rapists.so bad
The worst of the first 3 Romero movies for sure.
DAWN OF THE DEAD from 78 is STILL the best by far

6/10 rating
plenty of bad acting by several main actors
No zombies should have been able to understand
commands, feel for their masters, fire a gun, etc.
The ending was confusing, as if they ran out of their budget.
Character is revealed by how you treat people with no power.

I can understand how it's holding at a solid 7 rating.as far as zombie movies go, and especially in that era, it's pretty well made outside of the sub-par acting from a few of the cast who weren't playing zombies.
I gave it a 6 myself, however, I just now watched it in its entirety. Perhaps had I been rating it back when in the late-80's thru mid-90's I'd have given it an 8.

I know zombie movies are considered horror But were you ever scared by zombies? Really? I didn't think Dawn of the Dead was very scary either. The focus of these movies to me was always the interactions between the human characters. And I like that the woman in this movie was not another throwaway character, like all the women characters in the previous two movies.

This is my favourite of Romero's Dead films. I'm glad he went another direction and cut out all the camp that was synonymous with Dawn. The darker the better in my book.

Indeed it hits some low notes with a few scenes as far as acting. Though the briefings with Rhodes, second act where he lays down command and threatens Sara's life is monsterous. So brutal in demand that coincides with the violence. The calm before the storm when Sara, John and Billy have a drink at " The Ritz " just pours with atmosphere as John reasons with their scientific approach to the Zpox. It is a retelling of " Dawn " with the social commentary that just runs in circles to no avail of answers or solutions. Every Romero z-flick had a common pattern of a smart zombie ( Night - zombie picks up brick smashes headlights / Dawn - Fly Boy, pointing the direction of the false door.. best zombie ever was Steven..ever. and Day - Bub, who shaves, reads salems lot and makes phone calls..lol ) Dawn of the dead had the best hold up when they made it to the mall.. spam, crackers, caviar and J.Daniels.. on a side note I didnt care for The Walking Dead until I caught an episode of the second season and it dawned on me Greg Nicotero is one of the show's creators. His work on Day under Tom Savini is legendary. The blu ray is proof how keen their work was. Much CGI as of lately but times change I guess.. sorry to ramble..late is the hour. Oh to add though, Dawn is incredible on blu ray.. I thought having the black box laserdisc special edition was something nothing like watching that sucka in 1080 HD..
" They got trucks blocking all the entrances."
" Yeah, trucks ! "

It's extremely bleak and disturbing, with some amazing zombie make-up and special effects. The over-the-top (bad) acting turns some people off, but I enjoy their performances, especially the captain. Not better than dawn, but one of the best zombie movies ever.

I respect how a thread like " how does this deserve a 7 " to get the blood flowing. I defend this film at all angles. The original trilogy " Night - Dawn - Day " resonate so deep with my love for films, they are my Star Wars. Day I disagree with the origins of this thread is the strongest of the three. Honestly it is the only one that seems to age the best in a timeless fashion. I was reluctant to buy the blu ray version due to I was afraid the cinematography would be cleaned up too much that it would ruin my grainy VHS copy. To the contrary it only amplified the beauty of it. Friday the 13th ( original 1st installment ) looks like dog dirt on blu ray but " Day " doesn't suffer at all.

Because it's the best film in a storied franchise?
I honestly have no clue what today's audiences want in a film. When I want to see a film about a handful of possibly the last humans on earth facing extinction, I want it to be dark. I want it to feel claustrophobic. I want a sense of tension. This film delivers all of those.
Resident evil doesn't do any of those things yet each of the rapidly-declining deeper-into-the-B flicks they pump out makes 100 million dollars. Zombieland wasn't even funny, DEFINITELY not scary, yet I see it listed as people's 'favorite zombie movie' so much it hurts. World War Z might be one of the most turgid films ever made that couldn't be bothered to even glance at the source material and it's just like Zombieland when it comes to kids and their 'favorites'.
One day I'm going to walk into a theater showing Dr. Strangelove and see all the kids throwing popcorn at the screen while walking out. That's the day I'm just checking out of this universe.
