The ending is perfect. Either they literally got away in the chopper Or the end is just a dream as Sarah is dying or sleeping.
The film starts with a dream of horror so the scene of peace at the end could be another dream to book end the movie.

I agree with some of that but not with showing more detail how they got away. It's obvious they hopped on the helicopter and flew away. Not much more is needed.

I agree but the studio gave Romero a limited budget and he had to cut a lot of his original ideas.
