That is just the shorter sword. The two-handed sword is too long. He can never hang it by his waist.

I'll try to check but I'm not sure there's any goof here; Navarre has two swords, a short, one-handed sword that he carries at his side and a huge two-handed sword that hangs on his saddle. I believe the one Philippe takes from the barn is the latter.
