I was almost two and a half years old when this movie came out. I have seen this movie so many times I lost count. In fact I am watching this movie right now and am at the part where Pee-Wee is in the biker bar trying to use the pay phone. I cannot believe the movie is a little over thirty-one years old.

I just 34 a week ago today, and I can't believe this movie is over 30. I was 3 when it came out and saw it then. It sure puts things in perspective.

Why was this fairly modest mid-'80s comedy enough of a hit to be the auspicious start of so many creative careers? And how has it enjoyed such a lasting impact?

It really holds up, though, and is pretty timeless.

I'm a tad bit younger than you, at 40 Yeah, i agree, its crazy to think. I'd consider this a 'modern' movie, but it clearly isn't by timeframe standards.
I guess thats what happens when you turn old(er).
