In The Purple Rose of Cairo, Jeff Daniels plays Tom Baxter, a movie character who walks off the screen in the real world. In Pleasantville (1998), Jeff Daniels plays Bill Johnson, manager of the diner in "Pleasantville" a television program into which two kids enter from the real world. Just a fun coincidence!

In the 2000s,Jeff should of continued the tradition of playing a fictional character from another worlds. First it was film, next television, so. radio drama? Then in the 2010s, comic book, then in the 2020s. hmm

it's not a coincidence Katz. Jeff Daniels is specifically chosen for the role in Pleasantville to play the guy who falls in love with Tobey Maguire's mother in the movie, as a symbollical relationship between an unexistent TV character and a real life mother. Who else could play that role that Daniels had played in Pleasantville? All the other actors who can play that role, they were R.I.P by that time.

Jeff Daniels is one of our most underrated actors. How can the same guy appear in Purple Rose of Cairo, Something Wild, Pleasantville, 2 Days in the Valley and Dumb and Dumber?
Speaking of 2 Days in the Valley (an overlooked gem), that movie features three actors from Purple Rose: Daniels, Danny Aiello and Glenne Headley. Worth checking out.
Dude means nice guy. Dude means a regular sort of person.
