In the director's cut we see that after he finishes the flute, Emmett takes out a bigger piece of wood and begins whittling and sandpapering it and then varnishing it. (Remember, he was there all night.) At the end, before he rides off, he gives the Rosanna Arquette character a nice hand-made dildo and says, "Herethis'll keep you company until I get back."
