how would it hold up?
I've never seen it, and I was just wondering if it would feel dated or inauthentic.
Thanks for your honest appraisals.

lol, no, not yet. No, I hurt my back somehow and I haven't been able to concentrate on anything at all. I'm watching mindless reruns. Lots and lots of mindless reruns.

Did ya watch it?
I'm asking partly because I"m a weirdo who was so affected by this movie but also just to make sure you didn't off yourself after watching it.

I really appreciate everyone's input. I'm looking forward to this. It seems especially timely now.

You've no doubt seen better special effects. But that doesn't really matter as it keeps the focus on the characters and the overall story. The cinematography is bleak and cold, it reminds me a lot of the movie "Come and See". I won't say too much, but don't expect a happy ending.
I was only 2 or 3 when the cold war ended.
When I finished Threads, I went to some news websites. NATO and US forces are building up in countries neighbouring Russia, Russia is supporting Bashar Alasad and the west is arming the people trying to depose him and North Korea is the closest it's ever been to launching a nuclear strike. I'd say the in these uncertain times, Threads is once again relevant.

Just watched it the other day for the first time and it most definitely holds up. It doesn't matter how much our technology has improved over the decades, the result of such an attack would be the same. This film deals primarily with a nuclear attack, which, let's face it, you can't really do much to prevent, but it really makes you wonder why more hasn't been done to at least try to guard against EMP. An EMP is just as capable of sending us back to the dark ages as a full on nuclear attack.

could possibly be MORE effective now since at the time of its release people were thinking of nuclear war. Now people are pretty naive about it and are likely to be shocked when hit with the facts.

As someone who didn't grow up during the cold war and who first saw it a few weeks ago, not only does it hold up well, it still packs an enormously scary and depressing punch, especially when you look at what's happening today between the West and Russia. A true testament for what was probably a low budget film made for TV over 30 years ago.

I saw this movie for the first time about 2 years ago. It so disturbed me I couldn't watch it all at once, but had to take a break. Despite the lack of state-of-the-art CGI, I think it holds up incredibly well and is devastating no matter when you see it. JMO.

I watched it for the first time a few years ago and it holds up very well. It's a very disturbing film. It's actually a great film for Halloween lol.

On a side note as well, the way the news is delivered may look a little stiff. Also now we have rolling news channels it may seem a little odd that we would wait for a new bullieten to hear our information. It doesn't really hurt the film in any way but it does show how there was more control over news getting out about something like this than there is now.

I think it would hold up very well.
The only obvious things that date the movie are when the news broadcasts mention "Soviet Union", "East Germany", "Warsaw Pact". (Things that don't exist anymore.)
You can tell the movie was made in the 1980s by the cars, but once it gets to the aftermath of the nuclear holocaust, none of that matters. It still has shock value and scenes that might make you wince.
