Scorsese is obviously one of the greatest directors of all time and Tom Cruise is a great actor (doesn't always get the recognition he deserves in terms of ACTING) and is also huge box office draw. Scorsese also likes to collaborate with actor's and crew he's familiar with. So why did these two giants only make one film together? Was there any drama on set? Did they have a personality clash? Just think how great it would've been in the late 80's to the mid 90's if Cruise was to Scorsese what DeNiro and DiCaprio was and became?

Leo and Cruise rate about the same, although I'd give Cruise the edge. I've never seen Leo give a performance as brutal as Born on the Fourth of July.

De Niro and DiCaprio are better actors than Cruise, although Cruise still has made many fine films: The Color of Money, Rain Man, A Few Good Men, Interview with a Vampire, Jerry Maguire, Eyes Wide Shut, Vanilla Sky and Collateral.

I am a big fan of Cruise, yes, but I don't think he would have fitted in any of Scorsese's other 80s/90s movies. I think he is a good actor but not one with huge range, imo. I don't think De Niro does either thoughhe is just more suited to certain roles, roles that Scorsese created back then. I dunno.
but I think if he made The Wolf of Wall Street in the 90s, Cruise would have been great, funnily enough

I can totally see Cruise in GONY, The Departed, and Shutter Island

How does leo equate to de niro? I'll say cruise isn't any de niro but leo doesn't get this giant praise from me. Him and cruise are about the same in acting ability.

Yes-but cruise is disturbed and mentally disturbed in his real life!

I kinda agree he's not DeNiro or Leo. He's very much an all-american hero in most films (bar a few exceptions) while Leo and DeNiro tend to play jaded, rough around the edges, mentally disturbed and unhinged characters. However I do rate Cruise's ability. My main concern is that Cruise makes films to make money and not to create art (once again - bar a few exceptions).

He's also really good in eyes Wide Shut. Now that I am thinking he is a lot better than I remembered! I still don't think he's a Leo or De Niro though!

I agree with the OP. I think Cruise is a very good actor, and I was disappointed that he and Scorsese didn't make more movies together.
It seems to me like Cruise likes to work with different directors as opposed to just working with the same one all the time. He seems to have a max limit of two. 2 movies with Cameron Crowe, 2 with Spielberg, 2 with Tony Scott, etc.

He was also good in Collateral and Top Gun, but come on, really? He is no Leo or De Niro!

I actually don't think Cruise is that good of an actor. He was solid in The Color Of Money but other than that I think he pretty much sucks.
