The actress Karen Gillan said she recently saw this movie, but she didn't say whether or not she enjoyed it. Are there any Scottish people here? If so what do you guys or gals think of Highlander? Did you roll your eyes at any of the depictions of Scotland or did you just enjoy the movie?

How do you know Lambert didn't try? He couldn't speak English except for a few phrases and words when filming started. Considering how different French is from English, I think he did his best to sound Scottish in the 1500's, and sound unspecific in the modern day.
It's hardly his fault he got cast in the film is it??
You should put the blame on the Mulcahy, Panzer, Davis, Dimeo and McLean.
RIP Ian Richardson (1934-2007)

I have no problem with a frenchman playing a Scotsman as I though Lambert was great (No worse than Mel Gibson's performance as a Scot!).
True, but at least Mel Gibson tried to have a Scottish accent. He kind of failed at it, but he tried. I still think that Lambert was perfect for it though.

Born and raised in Glasgow, I loved this movie. I have no problem with a frenchman playing a Scotsman as I though Lambert was great (No worse than Mel Gibson's performance as a Scot!). This was always one of my favourites from my childhood. Such a shame though about the sequels (although I also quite enjoyed the third one).

I love this movie. Everything about it. Always have.
Yes, okay, the main character is a Scotsman played by a Frenchman and, yes, his mentor is an Egyptian played by a Scotsman it's silly, but if you just accept it - it's magnificent.
Who loves ya, baby?

I am intrigued as to why they chose a Scottish origin for McLeod/Nash in the first place.
I've read a couple of variations, but basically the story goes that the writer was travelling in Scotland and England, went to a museum that had old weapons and armor, and started imagining what it would be like if a guy who had used that stuff was still alive today.

But in what way? 'Russell Nash' could come from any background - a Viking for example - without changing the storyline.

His historical background isn't particularly relevant to the plot.
The plot being about a guy from the Highlands of Scotland being an immortal seems pretty relevant actually.
It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

I just enjoyed the film. But I wouldn't say it's in any way patronising towards the Scots (speaking as one).
I am intrigued as to why they chose a Scottish origin for McLeod/Nash in the first place. His historical background isn't particularly relevant to the plot. Not that I'm complaining.

I'm half Scottish on my mother's side, and I've lived in Scotland all my life. Personally I love the movie. While the Trivia page here claims Lambert's accent is 'accentless', it's clearly thickly French, even when he's in Scotland in the past.
But despite that one element, the rest of the Scotland portrayals is great. The accents are flawless, the scenery is perfect, and having been to some ruins here in Scotland (in Stirling for example) the sets look bang-on for how they should have looked.
Crumbling rock, green fields, plenty of animals, it's all just as it should be.
As said, Lambert's accent, while entertaining, will NEVER be considered even remotely Scottish. But outside of that, the film is in no way insulting, offensive or inaccurate towards Scotland and the Scottish people.
And being a nerd, I love this movie to death, so chances are I'd enjoy it regardless of if it was offensive or not.
